The works presented under the title Beyond Form emerged from a research and design process centered on investigating the role of form and its function in shaping human experience. At the core of this process was the question of how visual and perceptual qualities — mainly geometry and material — affect the way an object is understood, felt, and remembered by the observer.
Form was considered not as a static or decorative element, but as something active, capable of influencing perception, behavior, and atmosphere. The creative approach explored how natural phenomena could be translated into art by exploring the underlying principles of how they occur — growth, transformation, and material interaction — and how it could inform design. The resulting pieces were envisioned as cues, intended to provoke the imagination of the public.
Although nature informed the process, the intention was not to replicate its outward forms. Instead, attention turned to composition, materiality, surface qualities, and, above all, the methods of making. The method of creation itself became a central part of the work, shaping how each object evolved and how it could ultimately be perceived. This perspective was guided by the idea that the perception of form directly influences its reception.
As a result, the project asked not what a form is but what a form does — how it acts, how it engages, and how it resonates with the public. The outcomes were therefore left open, embracing chance and interpretation, inviting viewers into a space of imagination, reflection, and discovery.
The sculptures Puddle (46 × 35 × 44 cm, 2024–2025), Polygon H (60 × 26 × 28 cm, 2025), and Polygon L (40 × 55 × 61 cm, 2025) were produced in bronze and concrete.
The concrete elements were produced by Nikola Lajic. The bronze elements were produced by Nikola Lajic in collaboration with the Foundry of Dragan Ljubisavljevic, which provided technical expertise during the production process. Sole authorship of all works belongs to Nikola Lajic.
