Why Prize Designs for Modern Furniture + Lighting is different?

Prize Designs for Modern Furniture + Lighting is not like the other design programs and awards as the program stays true to its original 1950s concept of showcasing low-cost furniture and new technicians and designers by offering low-cost submission fees and no additional costs in order to encourage also smaller design studios and companies to participate.

Additionally, Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum for Architecture and Design make sure to support and give worldwide publicity to the award winners by the extensive social media platform coverage, weekly newsletters, and also by entering winning furniture and lighting products into the Permanent Design Collection of The Chicago Athenaeum.

To serve the needs of the vast majority of people we must have furniture that is adaptable to small apartments and houses, furniture that is well-designed, that is comfortable but not bulky, and that can be easily moved, stored, and cared for; in other words, mass-produced furniture that is planned and executed to fit the needs of modern living, production, and merchandising.- International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design.
